Did You Know: Choosing Paint Colors

At RCI, we give this advice to all of our clients choosing new paint colors: hold the swatches next to things that are staying (permanent fixtures) in the room. When you think you’ve chosen a great color hold it next to something that will not change (for example, your trim) rather than holding it in the center of a wall that you intend to change. The current color will influence how the new color looks and the only things that should influence it are things that you intend to keep.

*For the photos below we chose the tan paint to be the united factor—see how the other colors and trims influence what the tan paint looks like from one photo to the next.* Again, we advise to hold paint swatches against permanent surfaces rather than a wall of an old color because you’ll see below what can happen.
