Did You Know: “French Wired Lamps”

Pottery Barn Lamp: “French Wired”

We found this amazing  glass-base lamp for a client from Pottery Barn. Unfortunately when we went to install it we come to find that it is “French Wired” and as a result, the cord is going to show quite significantly. This is what we mean by “French Wired”:

French Wired Lamp

French wiring (like the lamp above) has the wire coming from the top of the lamp where the switch and bulb are located. This is typical of lamps with a glass or crystal base so that the aesthetic of the clear base is not ruined by a wire running through it. Something to look out for if you are not interested in seeing the wire except for poking out from the base of the lamp.
