At RCI, we give this advice to all of our clients choosing new paint colors: hold the swatches next to things that are staying (permanent fixtures) in the room. When you think you’ve chosen a great color hold it next to something that will not change (for example, your trim) rather than holding it in the center of a wall that you intend to change. The current color will influence how the new color looks and the only things that should influence it are things that you intend to keep.
