Elementary Multipurpose Room Renovation

Perrysburg School multipurpose room

A Community-Driven Interior Design Project by RCI Interior Design

RCI Interior Design was honored to help lead the renovation of the multipurpose room at Fort Meigs Elementary School in Perrysburg, Ohio.

In a school where space is limited, this room serves many purposes. Staff lunches and breaks, meetings, student breakout sessions, and collaborative work all happen in one shared environment. The goal was to transform a dated, underutilized space into something functional, uplifting, and built to last.

Project Vision and Goals

The project began with a simple but meaningful idea from Principal Kellie Johnson. She envisioned a better environment for staff and students that supported wellness, collaboration, and school pride.

RCI Interior Design worked alongside the Perrysburg Schools Foundation and the Perrysburg Schools Wellness Team to bring that vision to life.

Design goals included:

  • Creating a flexible layout that supports multiple daily uses
  • Selecting durable materials appropriate for a high-traffic school setting
  • Incorporating school spirit through color and finish selections
  • Balancing function with a warm, timeless aesthetic

The result is a space that feels intentional, energized, and welcoming while remaining practical for everyday use.

Design Highlights

  • Multi-use furniture layout that allows easy reconfiguration
  • Durable, commercial-grade flooring designed for longevity
  • Bright, spirited color choices that reflect Yellow Jacket pride
  • A cohesive design that elevates the room without overwhelming it

This renovation transformed the room from drab to inspiring and ensures it will serve the school community well for many years.

A True Community Effort

What makes this project especially meaningful is that 100 percent of the materials, labor, and services were donated. Not a single school dollar was used.

This renovation was made possible by the generosity of local partners who donated their time, expertise, and resources because they believe in supporting schools and educators.

Why Projects Like This Matter

Interior design has the ability to impact how people feel, collaborate, and recharge. In school environments especially, staff spaces are often overlooked. This project demonstrates what is possible when design professionals, community organizations, and local businesses come together with a shared purpose.

RCI Interior Design is proud to support projects that strengthen communities, support educators, and show what thoughtful, functional design can accomplish.
