Bold, Moody, and Urban: A Modern Townhome in Carmel, Indiana
When our clients decided to build a four-story townhome in the heart of Carmel, Indiana, they were ready to fully embrace an active, urban lifestyle. Situated along the bike path and within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and work, this home needed to feel modern, intentional, and reflective of the vibrant neighborhood they were joining.
The builder’s standard finishes provided a clean canvas, but it lacked personality. From the start, the goal was clear: establish a bold, moody modern vibe that felt sophisticated yet livable. We began by setting the tone with a dramatic, large-scale wallcovering. Its movement and depth immediately ground the space and create a strong visual identity.
With black as a foundational element, balance was key. Rather than letting the palette feel heavy, we softened and refined it through a thoughtful mix of materials and textures. Tile selections complement, textiles bring warmth and comfort, and carefully chosen lighting brighten this dark wall feature. Furniture selections were equally important… simple and modern, but comfortable enough for everyday living and entertaining.
Throughout the home, each design decision was made with flow and function in mind, honoring both the architecture of the townhome and the lifestyle of the homeowners. The result is a space that feels confident, urban, and tailored… proof that builder basics, when thoughtfully layered, can become something truly special.
This project is a perfect example of how bold design choices, when balanced with purpose and restraint, can elevate everyday living in a modern city setting. If you are ready to update your standards, contact Rose.
